I am so glad you’re here!

Here are some questions you might have about what to expect in therapy.

What is the process for setting up an appointment?

It’s pretty easy. Submit a request on the “Contacts” tab and I’ll follow up with you about your needs, my availability, and a date/time for your intake. You’ll fill out an electronic intake form for me to review in advance. Hop online to the virtual waiting room about 5-10 minutes before your session start time so we can jump right in.

What will the first session be like?

During your first session, we’ll use the whole hour to conduct an intake assessment. We’ll identify your most pressing concerns, assess current environmental factors, and learn more about your background. We’ll finish by identifying 1-3 goals for you in therapy. It’s a lot of information-gathering, so it’s a bit more structured than other sessions.

What do we typically do during sessions?

Primarily, we talk. It’s best for you to do most of the talking while I listen and ask questions. We’ll also engage with exercises (writing, role plays, deep breathing, exposures) as appropriate. You’ll get the most out of your sessions if you come with a few specific things you want to discuss.

Are our sessions confidential?

Everything you say in our session is confidential unless it puts your safety or the safety of others at risk. If I feel strongly that there is a risk of serious, foreseeable, and imminent harm to you or another person, I am required by law to disclose this to the appropriate people or institutions. This is a bit complicated, so we’ll talk about it in depth during your first session.

How often do we meet?

However often would be most beneficial for you. I’ll offer my own advice based on your circumstances, but ultimately you make the decision. Typically clients meet weekly or bi-weekly at the same day & time. Some people come as-needed, but I cannot always guarantee availability with this option.

How long do I have to be in therapy?

For as little or as long as you’d like! This is your journey and you know what’s best.

How does payment work?

I accept cash, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, and credit card, and payment is due at the time of service. I ask to keep one credit card on file but can change your payment type whenever you’d like.

How do I know if this is right for me?

Fit is everything. If you don’t feel like we connect, it will be difficult to move forward. This doesn’t mean therapy isn’t for you — it just means I’m probably not the right therapist for you, and I’m totally cool with that!. I can even help refer you to someone else. That being said, it takes time to build a trusting relationship and some discomfort is necessary in the process of growth. Trust your gut on this one.
